An Advent Conference in Nuremberg – with Augsburg in a Day

For large-scale formats, Nuremberg ranks among Germany’s most capable conference cities. The NürnbergConvention Center spans three areas with 50 flexible halls and rooms in total, offering capacity for up to 12,800 delegates – the largest of any city in this German Advent comparison. Groups seeking a smaller setting will also find plenty of options among the conference hotels in Nuremberg.

The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt as the city’s centrepiece

The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt (27 November to 24 December 2026) on the Hauptmarkt is regarded worldwide as one of the most famous and popular of its kind. Deliberately free of high-tech toys and built around its traditional wood-and-cloth character, it shapes the city’s image as “Germany’s number-one Christmas city” throughout Advent – right next to many conference venues.

Augsburg as a directly reachable second destination

What sets Nuremberg apart from Germany’s other Advent destinations: Augsburg is just around 70 minutes away via the high-speed Munich–Nuremberg line, a direct connection easily used for a day trip. Augsburg’s Kongress am Park seats around 1,430 in its main hall for smaller secondary formats, but its real draw is the Augsburg Christkindlesmarkt (23 November to 24 December 2026) around the Rathausplatz – first recorded in 1498, one of Germany’s oldest Christmas markets, known for its Engelesspiel angel display on the illuminated town hall façade.

Two formats work well: run the main conference entirely in Nuremberg with a guided day trip to Augsburg, or plan a two-day format with overnight stays and programme elements in both cities.

What if Nuremberg is more than you need?

Not every group needs the capacity of a full convention centre. For a more compact, personal format, Dresden and Weimar or Aachen and Münster are worth a look – more on both in our overview of Advent meetings in Germany.

A planning checklist for Nuremberg

  • Decide on the format first: a Nuremberg-only conference, a day trip to Augsburg, or a two-day format across both cities.
  • Enquire early: dates around the Christkindlesmarkt are booked out months in advance.
  • Plan travel time realistically: around 70 minutes by ICE to Augsburg – easily manageable in a single day.
  • Time the supporting programme carefully: the Engelesspiel in Augsburg runs at fixed times, worth building into the day’s schedule.
