The new-year kick-off is, for many companies, the most important strategic date of the year. Goals are set, teams are aligned on shared priorities, and new momentum is created. More and more companies are deliberately moving these events to the mountains. Winter conferences in the Swiss Alps combine productive work with an inspiring setting and create the best conditions for a successful start to 2027. Davos, Grindelwald and Zermatt are particularly in demand during the winter months. Each of these regions offers its own advantages, from modern congress infrastructure to spectacular mountain backdrops to exclusive calm away from everyday life. Anyone planning a kick-off meeting for January or February 2027 should already be looking into available dates. The most popular venues and event weeks are often booked out several months in advance. After a long phase of digital meetings, meeting in person is gaining importance again. The combination of focused conference work in the morning and shared experiences in the winter landscape in the afternoon creates a setting that strengthens team spirit and creates lasting memories.

An overview of conference hotels across Switzerland shows how many other regions suit a new-year kick-off – Davos, Grindelwald and Zermatt are among the most sought-after in winter, not least because of their high-profile events in the first quarter of 2027.

Why planning for 2027 winter conferences matters already

Most new-year kick-offs and leadership retreats take place between mid-January and the end of March. At the same time, numerous sporting and cultural events draw extra visitors to the most popular Swiss conference destinations. This significantly increases demand for hotel rooms, meeting space and accompanying programmes.

Planning early means access to a wider choice of hotels, more attractive dates and greater flexibility in shaping the programme. For group events in particular, an early enquiry can be decisive in securing the preferred destination and the right venue.

Davos: the first choice for large conferences and congresses

Davos has been one of Europe’s leading congress destinations for years. Well known for major international events and excellent infrastructure, the resort suits everything from small leadership meetings to gatherings with several thousand delegates.

Davos Congress Centre offers a plenary hall for up to 1,800 people, 34 further rooms and 12,000 square metres in total – enough for events with up to 5,000 participants. Smaller kick-offs with 20 to 200 people are equally well served by the numerous conference hotels in Davos with their own seminar rooms.

The journey is straightforward too: from Zurich HB, delegates reach Davos in around two hours by train, usually with one or two changes via Landquart. Davos Dorf and Davos Platz each have their own station in the centre of town, so the walk from train to meeting room stays short.

A particular advantage of Davos is its immediate proximity to the Parsenn and Jakobshorn ski areas, making it easy to combine business and leisure without any extra transfer.

Grindelwald: meeting against the backdrop of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau

Anyone looking for a striking alpine backdrop for their event will find ideal conditions in Grindelwald. Few other conference destinations in Switzerland combine professional infrastructure and natural scenery so seamlessly. The congress hall in the Sportzentrum, together with numerous seminar hotels, offers capacity for small and medium-sized groups. At the same time, the view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau lifts the atmosphere of every meeting. The journey is comfortable via Interlaken Ost. Although there is no direct train from Zurich, the connection remains comfortable and reliable. A particularly popular excursion among conference guests is the trip up to the Jungfraujoch. Europe’s highest railway station offers not only spectacular views but also an exceptional experience for international delegates. Grindelwald gains further appeal from well-known winter events such as the Lauberhorn Races or the World Snow Festival, which fit perfectly into a supporting programme.

An overview of the conference hotels in Grindelwald helps with an initial shortlist before making a firm enquiry.

Zermatt: exclusive conference experiences by the Matterhorn

Zermatt offers a completely different atmosphere from Davos or Grindelwald. The car-free mountain village stands for calm, exclusivity and an extraordinary natural setting. Instead of a central congress centre, Zermatt relies on high-quality meeting rooms within its hotels, which often creates a more personal atmosphere, particularly valued for management meetings, leadership retreats and strategy workshops. The journey runs via Täsch and the regular shuttle train into Zermatt. The appeal of the destination becomes clear the moment you arrive in the village. The Matterhorn shapes the townscape and provides an unmatched backdrop for events and group activities. For many companies, it is precisely this combination of alpine calm, exclusivity and professional infrastructure that makes Zermatt the venue of choice.

An overview of the conference hotels in Zermatt helps with an initial shortlist before making a firm enquiry.

Which destination suits your event?

The right destination depends mainly on the size of the event, the aims of the meeting and what delegates expect. Davos is particularly well suited to congresses, kick-off meetings and larger corporate events. Thanks to its extensive congress infrastructure, it can professionally host events for roughly 20 to several thousand participants.

Grindelwald is especially interesting for team meetings, workshops and incentive events. The combination of modern conference infrastructure and the impressive mountain backdrop around the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau creates ideal conditions for groups of roughly 20 to 450 people who want to combine work with shared experiences.

Zermatt appeals particularly to companies looking for an exclusive, calm setting for management meetings, strategy sessions or leadership retreats. The high-quality conference hotels and the unique atmosphere by the Matterhorn suit smaller groups just as well as events with up to 800 participants.

While Davos scores mainly through its capacity and international congress experience, Grindelwald stands out for its natural setting and team-building potential. Zermatt, in turn, stands for exclusivity, privacy and an extraordinary alpine backdrop. Each destination therefore has its own strengths and can be the right choice depending on the aim of the event.

These team events leave a lasting impression

A successful kick-off meeting is remembered not just for its agenda but for the shared experiences that come with it. In Davos, Grindelwald and Zermatt, plenty of activities can be built into a conference programme without extra effort.

Planning early means the widest choice

Davos, Grindelwald and Zermatt remain among the most attractive destinations for winter conferences in Switzerland in 2027 too. While Davos impresses with first-class congress infrastructure, Grindelwald scores with spectacular mountain panoramas and short distances to leisure activities. Zermatt, in turn, offers an exclusive and calm setting for demanding events.

Anyone who plans their new-year kick-off early secures the widest choice of hotels, meeting rooms and supporting programmes, creating the best conditions for a successful start to the new business year.
